Jhalokathi, July 20 (V7N) — On Saturday morning, as part of the central program to revive the memory of the July-August mass uprising, Jhalokathi district observed the ‘One Martyr, One Tree’ plantation and graffiti painting event. The program began at 11 a.m. at the grave of the brave martyr Kamal Hossain in Agar Bari village of Sadar Upazila, where a tree was planted in his honor.
The tree was planted by the Deputy Commissioner of Jhalokathi, Md. Ashraful Rahman. Present at the event were the Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Farhana Yasmin, Range Officer of the District Forest Department Md. Zakirul Haque Sarkar, President of Jhalokathi Press Club Kazi Khalilur Rahman, Acting Chairman of Basanda Union Parishad Shamim Azad, and Administrative Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam.
Before the plantation, the Deputy Commissioner paid respects at Kamal Hossain’s grave and met with his family members. The martyr’s wife Rani Begum, their two children, and father-in-law Ismail Howlader were also present.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner toured various graffiti paintings created by students from different educational institutions. These artworks depicted the struggles before and after 1971, the sacrifices of martyrs, and the spirit of liberation.
Md. Ashraful Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Jhalokathi, said, “This tree plantation and graffiti program is part of the central initiative to revive the July-August mass uprising. The government has taken the responsibility to build a permanent memorial at the martyrs’ graves and will provide all kinds of support to their families.”
He also added that the graffiti on the walls will help future generations learn about the history of the movement, and this program will be observed annually in memory of the martyrs.
