Rangamati, Nov 04 (V7N) — The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially announced its candidates for the three constituencies in the Chittagong Hill Tracts for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The announcement was made on Monday afternoon at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, where Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir read out the names of candidates for all 237 constituencies.
According to the declaration, Dipen Dewan, a former Joint District Judge, has been nominated for Constituency 299 in Rangamati. Abdul Wadud Bhuiya will contest in Khagrachhari, while former Member of Parliament Sachin Prue Jery has been nominated for Bandarban.
Dipen Dewan, who is serving as the Co-Secretary for Religious Affairs in the BNP Central Executive Committee, is contesting in Rangamati for the first time. In the 2008 parliamentary election, his wife, Maitri Chakma, represented the party in this constituency. Previously, in 2001, BNP’s Moni Swapan Dewan won the seat. In February 1996, Kusum Chakma was elected as the Member of Parliament from the same constituency.
Dipen Dewan is the son of the late Subimal Dewan, a respected advisor and former minister under President Ziaur Rahman. He graduated from the University of Dhaka with a degree in law and served 19 years in the judiciary after joining the 7th BCS Judicial Service. He is also a former president of Rangamati District BNP and a founding member of Rangamati Law College.
Abdul Wadud Bhuiya, the BNP president in Khagrachhari district, has previously served twice as a Member of Parliament, first in the 6th (February 1996) and later in the 8th (2001) National Parliament elections. He has again received the party nomination for the upcoming election.
Sachin Prue Jery, nominated for Bandarban, previously served as an MP in the 6th National Parliament election in February 1996. He has also held the positions of Bandarban Sadar Upazila Chairman and Chairman of the Bandarban Hill District Council. His father, Ong Shai Prue Chowdhury, was elected from the same constituency in 1988 representing BNP.
The announcement marks BNP’s strategic selections for the Chittagong Hill Tracts, emphasizing both experienced leaders and local representation for the upcoming national polls.
