Madaripur, Nov 10 (V7N) — A gruesome murder took place late Sunday night in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur, where a man allegedly killed his father during a violent family dispute. The incident occurred in the Panchgram area of Bashkandi Union’s Ward No. 7.
The victim was identified as Mati Mia, 65, a resident of Barhati village under Bholarhat Police Station in Chapainawabganj district. He had recently moved to Shibchar with his family in search of work.
According to police, the murder was carried out by his 27-year-old son, Faruk Mia, around midnight following a heated quarrel between the two earlier in the evening. Investigators believe the killing was premeditated.
Local residents reported that the argument between father and son began in the afternoon. Later that night, after other family members had gone to sleep, Faruk allegedly attacked his father with a spade while he was sleeping, striking him multiple times. Mati Mia died instantly at the scene from severe head and neck injuries.
Upon receiving information, a team from Shibchar Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rakibul Islam, rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and arrested the accused son. Police also seized the blood-stained spade believed to have been used in the murder.
OC Rakibul Islam confirmed the incident and said, “Initial investigation suggests that a long-standing family dispute led to the killing. The murder weapon has been recovered, and the accused is in custody. Preparations are underway to send him to court.”
The brutal patricide has shocked the local community, with residents expressing disbelief over the incident. Police said the victim’s body has been sent for autopsy and that further investigation is ongoing.
