Rangamati, Nov 11 (V7N) — In defiance of threats and intimidation from the anti-accord armed group United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-Main), the Bangladesh Army successfully conducted a free medical camp for local residents at Harangipara High School ground in the remote Ghagra Union of Kaukhali upazila, Rangamati.

The daylong medical outreach took place on Monday, featuring a team of specialized doctors, including a pediatrician, a gynecologist, and a medical officer. A limited number of residents, including women, children, and the elderly, received medical consultations and free medicines during the camp. The army had arranged approximately Tk 2 lakh worth of medicines and medical supplies for distribution.

Local sources said that prior to the start of the medical activities, UPDF (Main) members attempted to intimidate villagers, warning them not to participate in the army-run camp. The group reportedly issued threats across several hill communities, saying that anyone seeking treatment would face fines and punishment. As a result, many sick individuals hesitated to attend the camp out of fear.

Despite the threats, army personnel carried out the humanitarian mission with patience and compassion, ensuring that medical services continued as planned. Those who received treatment expressed satisfaction and gratitude toward the Bangladesh Army for standing beside them in such a difficult time.

Officials from the Rangamati Region Command stated that the Bangladesh Army remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of the hill people, emphasizing peace, security, and humanitarian support as top priorities. They reiterated that no armed organization’s intimidation or propaganda can deter the army from serving the people. The army also pledged to continue similar humanitarian programs in the future for the betterment of remote communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
