Netrakona, July 10 (V7N) – Concerns are mounting in Kalmakanda Upazila of Netrakona as substandard materials are reportedly being used in a key road construction project. The road, stretching 2,100 meters from the Upazila headquarters to Rangchhati Union, is being built using low-grade crush and soil instead of the required gravel and sand.

An on-site inspection revealed that the project, worth Tk 2.61 crore, is being executed by Noorjahan Enterprise under the supervision of LGED. Locals and observers noted the use of improper materials that raise serious questions about the road's longevity.

When approached for comment, contractor Shafiqul Islam Azad initially claimed he was unaware of the materials being used as he was in Dhaka. However, workers at the site stated he had recently been present and had delivered the materials himself. When confronted with this, Azad responded, “I source the materials from my brother’s kiln and use what’s available.”

Local residents allege that poor-quality construction is a recurring issue, leading to repeated damage and unnecessary public expenditure.
