Narsingdi, July 20 (V7N) — Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a member of BNP’s permanent committee, voiced full support for Dr. Yunus’s proposal to hold general elections in February. Speaking at a rally in Shibpur’s Itakhola on Saturday afternoon, he stated, “Dr. Yunus, if you hold the election in February and face any obstacles, BNP will stand by you.”
Roy emphasized BNP’s historic struggle: “For 17 years, we fought for voting rights. We aim to restore the citizens’ power to elect their own representatives—who cast their votes publicly and form a government. This nation achieved independence in 1971 through war. We have not forgotten those who opposed the war, committed atrocities, or raped women.”
He condemned efforts to delay the election under the guise of reform: “BNP believes in true reform, not superstition. Reform cannot be used to postpone the vote.”
Roy also paid tribute to victims of the July unrest: “We pray for the souls of those who died and wish a full recovery to those injured.”
The program was chaired by Shibpur Upazila BNP president Abul Haris Rikabdar. Speakers included BNP Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, district general secretary Manzur Elahi, Senior Vice President Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul, Vice President Tofazzal Hossain Master, Executive Committee member Akramul Hasan Mintu, and Shibpur Upazila secretary Abu Saleh Rikabdar. The session was managed by Jubo Dal member-secretary Apel Mahmud Suman Munshi.
