Citizens and Islamic scholars form a human chain in front of Shahjame Mosque in Netrokona on Tuesday, protesting alleged derogatory remarks made by an NCP leader about former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfozzaman Babar.
Netrokona, July 30 (V7N) - A group of religious scholars, political activists, and concerned citizens staged a human chain protest in Netrokona on Tuesday, demanding a public apology from National Citizens’ Party (NCP) central organizer Nasir Uddin Patowary. The protest was triggered by allegedly derogatory comments Patowary made about former State Minister for Home Affairs Lutfuzzaman Babar during a recent NCP campaign rally in the district.
The hour-long demonstration took place in front of the Shahi Jame Mosque in the city’s Bara Bazar area at noon. It was organized by local Islamic scholars and students, drawing participation from various political and religious organizations.
Khelafat Andolan's Central Assistant Secretary General Maulana Gazi Muhammad Abdur Rahim Ruhi presided over the protest. Among those who spoke were Netrokona BNP Joint Convener SM Moniruzzaman Dudu, District Jubo Dal Vice President Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Rony, Acting President of the Municipal BNP Mehrul Alam Razu, and leaders from Hefazat-e-Islam, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, and Khelafat Majlis.
Speakers accused the NCP of conducting so-called “marches” across the country without genuine public support and instead resorting to attacking popular leaders in the districts to gain attention. They alleged that Patowary’s remarks about Babar were part of a broader political provocation aimed at disrupting national unity and potentially destabilizing the upcoming election climate.
Demanding immediate and unconditional apology from Patowary to Babar and the people of Netrokona, the protestors warned of escalating demonstrations if the NCP failed to take disciplinary action. They also called for the expulsion of Nasir Uddin Patowary from the party to restore political decency.
The event concluded with a strong collective message: any attempt to defame respected figures for political gain will be met with firm resistance from local communities.
