Khagrachhari, Aug 13 (V7N) — Khagrachhari marked National and International Youth Day with a program organized by the Hill District Council and the Youth Development Department on Tuesday morning at the Youth Development Department conference hall. The event featured a discussion session, distribution of youth loans and sewing machines, tree planting, fish release, certificate distribution for training completion, and a youth rally.
The program began with a balloon release to inaugurate Youth Day, led by the chief guest, Nitlal Moni Chakma, member of the Hill District Council. The discussion session, presided over by District Council member Mahbub Alam, included remarks from the chief guest and key speakers.
In her welcome speech, Hafisa Aerin, Deputy Director of the District Youth Development Department, highlighted the significance of youth participation in national progress. Other speakers included Assistant Director Bipendu Chakma of the Youth Development Department, District Fisheries Officer Dr. Raju Ahmed, and Deputy Coordinator Iqbal Kawsar.
Speakers emphasized the critical role of youth in the country’s development and advancement. They noted that by engaging youth in technology-driven and various development projects, especially in the hill areas, young people can be transformed into skilled manpower. This approach not only helps prevent youth from falling into drug addiction and other vices but also boosts their employment capacity.
Following the discussion, four successful female entrepreneurs received sewing machines to support their work. Additionally, youth loan packages totaling Tk 14 lakh 50 thousand were distributed among 12 trained youths to help them become successful self-employed individuals. Certificates were also awarded to 25 trainees who completed their programs.
The event was attended by officials from various government and non-government departments, as well as youth representatives from different parts of the district.
The program concluded with tree planting and fish release activities held in the premises of the Youth Development Department.
