Children wade through thick mud on the only access road to Tarabunia Board Government Primary School in Rajapur, arriving soaked and exhausted—some unable to attend school at all due to the severe road conditions.
Rajapur, August 8 (V7N) – The condition of the main earthen road leading to Tarabunia Board Government Primary School in Ward No. 5 of Saturia Union, Rajapur Upazila, has severely deteriorated, causing significant suffering for local residents, especially school-going children. During the monsoon season, the road becomes submerged in knee-deep mud, making it nearly impossible to walk.
Photos from the area reveal that the road, which is the only access route for students, has become unusable at multiple points due to accumulated mud and stagnant water. Each day, children are forced to wade through the muddy terrain to reach school. Many arrive with wet clothes and soiled uniforms, while others are unable to attend classes altogether.
Mohammad Tanim, a local resident, said, “The condition of this road has remained unchanged for years. During the rainy season, it becomes completely impassable. Children suffer the most. We’ve submitted several requests for repairs, but nothing effective has been done. With board exams approaching, how are these students expected to get to school?”
Locals also pointed out that the school is not just an ordinary educational institution—it serves as an official examination center for the Primary Education Completion Examination, hosting over a hundred students each year. “Why is the road to such a vital institution left in this condition year after year?” they questioned. “Why has this area remained untouched by development?”
The poor condition of the road doesn’t only affect students. Villagers report that transporting the sick to healthcare centers becomes a challenge, and even farmers struggle to move their produce during the rainy months. Without a durable paved road, they say, the hardship will continue indefinitely.
In response to the complaints, Upazila LGED Engineer Abhijit Majumder stated, “Steps will be taken soon to repair the road and make it suitable for regular use.”
Despite repeated appeals from the community, no permanent action has been taken. Locals hope that authorities will now prioritize the issue, especially considering the upcoming exam season and the road’s importance to the larger community.
