Rajshahi, August 4 (V7N) — Authorities in Rajshahi have intensified security operations across the city amid concerns that certain groups may attempt to incite unrest during the month of August, according to Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian.
Beginning Saturday, police established checkpoints at key locations throughout the metropolitan area. The move is part of a broader security directive aimed at maintaining public order, deterring criminal activity, and ensuring civilian safety.
Police field officers have been briefed on potential threats and instructed to remain on high alert throughout the month. In a recent television interview, Commissioner Sufian confirmed that a virtual meeting was held with police headquarters to coordinate security plans specific to August. “Our action plan covers the entire month, not just a single day,” he said. “We are fully alert to prevent any untoward incidents.”
He further noted that intelligence suggests various groups are attempting to provoke instability. "We are monitoring the situation closely, and legal action will be taken wherever threats are identified."
Checkpoint operations include the random inspection of individuals and vehicles entering the city to intercept potential offenders or contraband. The initiative has reportedly enhanced the public’s sense of safety, with citizens responding positively to the increased police presence.
The RMP has also issued public contact information for assistance or reporting suspicious activity. Residents may call the RMP helpline at +8802588801351 or mobile 01320063999. For cyber-related concerns, the designated hotline is +8801320-061999.
The stepped-up security measures reflect broader efforts across Bangladesh to safeguard public spaces during a historically sensitive time on the national calendar.
