Dhaka, Feb 28 (V7N) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Friday said political parties must revise their election manifestos in line with public expectations, changing times and the aspirations of the youth.

He said politics is dynamic, not static, and therefore party goals, aims and declarations must reflect people’s hopes, contemporary demands and the vision of young generations.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion and iftar programme marking the first anniversary of the National Citizen Party (NCP) at Abahani Limited ground in the capital.

Salahuddin said he felt hopeful when the NCP began its journey in the democratic political arena, adding that the participation of young people in politics would inject new energy and dignity into the country’s political landscape.

He noted that the party secured six seats in the national parliament through electoral alliances and expressed optimism that its representation could increase in the future, even potentially leading it to state power.

The minister said ups and downs are natural in politics and those unwilling to accept them cannot survive in the field. He added that people want a political environment that truly reflects public needs and encourages broader civic participation.

Referring to the July 2024 mass uprising, he said political parties must carry forward the expectations of students and citizens expressed during that period. He also mentioned that he had carefully read the NCP’s election manifesto and found it encouraging.

Calling for unity on national issues, Salahuddin Ahmed said debates would take place in parliament, but unity must be maintained in matters of national interest. He emphasised that the National Parliament should become the main centre for discussion, where issues are resolved through dialogue and debate.

Later, the home minister attended an iftar and doa programme organised by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
