Sylhet, Feb 28, 2026 (V7N) – Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury today said the government will launch the ‘Probashi Card’ for Bangladeshi migrant workers very soon, in line with its election manifesto commitments.

He also revealed that initiatives are underway to regularize the status of around 25,000 undocumented Bangladeshis currently living in Spain.

Speaking to journalists at the Sylhet Circuit House, the minister said that under the government’s 180-day priority programme, steps are being taken to reopen closed labour markets, particularly in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and other countries where labour migration had been suspended.

“Our efforts are being guided by the Prime Minister’s directives, and we are working to restore overseas employment opportunities for Bangladeshi workers,” he said, according to a PID handout.

Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, who was also present, said the market for essential commodities remains stable and expressed optimism that the stability would continue in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury noted that flooding in the Sylhet region is largely driven by the influx of floodwaters from across the border, adding that keeping the area flood-free remains a significant challenge.

Earlier, the ministers held a meeting with officials from different government departments to review ongoing development activities in the district.
