Silchar, August 3 (V7N) – A passenger identified as Hussain Ahmed Majumdar from Assam’s Cachar district was physically assaulted aboard an IndiGo flight (6E138) from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday, August 1, after experiencing a panic attack. A viral video circulating on Facebook and other platforms showed a fellow passenger slapping Majumdar mid-air while he was visibly distressed.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation online, prompting IndiGo Airlines to issue a statement declaring the attack “completely unacceptable.” The airline confirmed that the assailant was handed over to airport security upon landing and has been placed on IndiGo’s no-fly list.

Following the incident, Majumdar reportedly went missing. He did not board his scheduled connecting flight to Silchar, and his family, concerned by his disappearance, launched an appeal on social media seeking information. His phone remained unreachable for nearly 48 hours.

On August 2, officials confirmed that Majumdar was found safe at Barpeta railway station in Assam. He was traveling home by train and made contact with his family shortly before being located by police. Authorities from Assam and Kolkata collaborated in the search.

The incident has reignited concerns over mental health awareness and passenger behavior in-flight. Aviation regulators are expected to review the case further.
