Dhaka, Feb 12, 2026 (V7N) – A summary trial court on Wednesday sentenced five people, including a Jamaat-e-Islami activist, for violating the election code of conduct in different parts of the capital.

In Sutrapur, Jamaat worker Habibur Rahman, 63, was caught allegedly preparing to distribute cash. Law enforcers seized 12 envelopes containing Tk 500 each, totaling Tk 6,000. He was sentenced to two days’ imprisonment by Lalbagh Division Special Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman, with the money confiscated in favor of the state, police said.

Separately, Wari Division’s Special Metropolitan Magistrate sentenced one person to one month’s imprisonment and another to seven days for roaming without satisfactory reason. In Motijheel Division, Magistrate Mahidur Rahman sentenced two individuals to 10 days’ imprisonment each under Section 75 of the DMP Ordinance, after they were accused of making negative comments about police and detained by members of the public.

Deputy Commissioner of DMP Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the convictions, noting they were carried out through on-the-spot summary trials.
