Rangpur, Feb 05 (V7N) - Bangladesh Army on Wednesday conducted a drill exercise in Rangpur division to demonstrate its readiness to tackle any kind of unrest during the February 12 referendum and the 13th Jatiya Sangsad Elections 2026.

The exercise was carried out by the Commando Group of the 66 Infantry Division at the Rangpur Cricket Garden ground in the afternoon. The drill was held under the overall supervision and direction of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 66 Infantry Division and Rangpur Area Commander, Major General Mohammad Kamrul Hasan.

Following the exercise, army officials said the force is fully prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any volatile situation that may arise during the elections.

As part of the demonstration, a 10-member Para Commando team landed at the venue using a helicopter. The drill showcased how army units would be deployed by air to remote and sensitive polling areas if disorder or violence breaks out on election day.

The exercise drew significant public attention, with hundreds of local residents of different age groups gathering along nearby roads to witness the army’s aerial and ground operations.

Army officials reiterated that such preparedness measures are aimed at ensuring a peaceful, secure and orderly election environment across Rangpur division.
