Habiganj, July 26 (V7N) – A young man was arrested with a consignment of smuggled Indian Phensedyl, (Eskuf) syrup during a special patrol operation conducted by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in the border region of Madhabpur upazila, under Habiganj district.

The arrestee, identified as Mohammad Mostahid Miah, 20, is a resident of Kalikapur village in Madhabpur upazila. He was apprehended on Saturday morning near the Kalikapur border area under the jurisdiction of the Dharmaghar Border Outpost (BOP).

According to BGB sources, the arrest followed a tip-off about a possible smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Acting on the intelligence, a patrol team from the 25th BGB Battalion, led under the directive of Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, launched a targeted operation in the area.

During the raid, the patrol team seized 50 bottles of Eskuf-brand Indian liquor, which had been illegally brought across the border. Mostahid Miah was caught red-handed with the contraband and taken into custody on the spot.

Later in the day, the BGB filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act and handed Mostahid over to Madhabpur Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Officer-in-Charge, (OC) of Madhabpur Police Station, Mohammad Shahid Ullah, confirmed the arrest and stated that Mostahid was presented before the Habiganj Judicial Magistrate’s Court. Following the court’s directive, he was sent to Habiganj District Jail.

The operation highlights ongoing efforts by the BGB to curb cross-border smuggling, particularly of narcotics and alcohol, in sensitive border zones. Local authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict surveillance and acting promptly on intelligence to combat such illegal activities.
