Dhaka, July 22, (V7N) - The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has fixed July 30 to deliver its verdict on the appeal filed by Mobarak Hossain, challenging the death sentence awarded to him by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) for crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
The decision came today after the conclusion of hearings by a five-member Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.
Mobarak Hossain, a resident of Akhaurha in Brahmanbaria, was convicted by ICT-1 on November 24, 2014. The tribunal found him guilty on two charges out of five for atrocities committed during the war, and sentenced him to death.
At today’s hearing, Senior Advocate SM Shahjahan and Barrister Emran A Siddique appeared on behalf of the appellant, while Gazi MH Tamim represented the ICT prosecution.
Mobarak Hossain’s case is one of the high-profile war crimes cases from the ICT process, and the upcoming verdict is expected to draw national attention.
