Dhaka, Feb 18 (V7N) — The crescent moon marking the start of the holy month of Ramadan has been sighted in the sky of Bangladesh, meaning fasting will begin on Thursday (February 19).
The decision was announced after a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held Wednesday evening at the Islamic Foundation’s conference room of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital. The meeting was chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad.
After reviewing reports from across the country, the committee officially confirmed that the moon had been sighted and that Ramadan would commence the following day.
With the announcement, Muslims across the country will perform Tarawih prayers tonight after Isha, while preparations for Sehri will begin in the early hours of Thursday. Tarawih prayers at the national mosque are scheduled to start at 8:00 pm.
Ramadan is regarded as a sacred month of worship, reflection, and spiritual renewal. The arrival of the month has brought a wave of religious devotion across the country, with believers preparing to observe fasting, increased prayers, and charitable activities throughout the period.
