Dhaka, Feb 18 (V7N) — Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has decided not to use a government vehicle for his daily travels, opting instead for his personal car along with his own driver and fuel. The move is aimed at reducing traffic congestion and easing public inconvenience in the capital.
Atiqur Rahman Rumon, a member of BNP’s media cell, confirmed that on Wednesday morning, the Prime Minister traveled from his Gulshan residence to the Savar National Memorial in his white Toyota car to pay tribute to martyrs. On his instructions, the Prime Minister’s motorcade has been reduced from 13–14 vehicles to just four. His car does not carry a flag during routine movements, although a flag will be displayed for official state functions or when foreign guests are visiting.
The Prime Minister has also instructed that cabinet meetings will now be held at the Secretariat rather than the Prime Minister’s Office. Rumon explained that this decision was made to prevent traffic jams caused by VIP movements and to avoid causing inconvenience to ordinary citizens.
Additionally, the concerned ministry has been asked to stop providing uniformed police escorts along the Prime Minister’s route in Dhaka, further streamlining travel and reducing disruption for the public.
This initiative reflects the Prime Minister’s focus on practical governance and minimizing public inconvenience in the capital city.
