Dhaka, Feb 18 (V7N) — Newly appointed Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhwat Hossain has pledged to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare across Bangladesh, ensuring that medical services reach the people directly. He spoke to reporters after assuming office at the Secretariat on Wednesday (February 18).
The Health Minister highlighted the need to restore public trust in the health sector, saying, “People should not feel the need to go abroad for treatment. We must improve quality so that even ministers, MPs, and the general public can rely on domestic healthcare.”
Sardar Sakhwat Hossain also emphasized tackling corruption in the health ministry, stating, “A corruption-free health ministry will be created. We will break syndicates and will not work under anyone’s pressure.”
On medical staff accountability, the minister added, “Visits to hospitals will start within seven days to ensure doctors attend their workplaces on time. Within a month, punctuality will be strictly enforced.”
He confirmed that his policies will be guided by the BNP’s 31-point manifesto, focusing on improving healthcare delivery and reforming the sector for better public service.
