Rajshahi, Feb 18 (V7N) — The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has arrested an alleged drug dealer with 1.5 kilograms of heroin during a pre-dawn anti-drug operation in Damkura area of Rajshahi. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Tk 1.5 crore, officials said.

According to the DNC, acting on secret information, a raiding team from the District Office, Rajshahi, took position on the Rajshahi–Chapainawabganj highway in Notun Kasba village under Damkura Police Station at around 4:45 am on February 17.

During the operation, a white private car (Dhaka Metro-G-11-5529) was signaled to stop. However, the driver allegedly attempted to flee. The vehicle was later intercepted and searched, leading to the recovery of 1 kg 500 grams of heroin concealed in three separate packets inside the car’s dashboard.

The arrested individual was identified as Mashiur Rahman (40), son of Anarul Islam of Arua village under Godagari Police Station. He was detained on the spot for allegedly transporting the narcotics.

In addition to the heroin, law enforcers seized the private car used in transporting the drugs, estimated to be worth Tk 20 lakh, along with two mobile phones.

Deputy Director of the Narcotics Control Department, Md. Mehendi Hasan, confirmed that a case has been filed against the accused at Damkura Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018.

He said preliminary interrogation suggests the drugs were intended for sale, and investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the alleged trafficking network.
