Tehran, Mar 04 (V7N) — Iran has postponed the planned three-day funeral for its late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, state media reported on Wednesday (March 4). The new schedule for the ceremonies will be announced at a later date, according to the country’s official news agencies.

The funeral had been initially scheduled to begin on Wednesday at Imam Khamenei Square, where thousands of supporters were expected to pay tribute. Authorities cited preparations and concerns over the anticipated massive turnout as reasons for the postponement.

The delay comes amid ongoing military strikes in Iran by the United States and Israel, adding complexity to the organization of the ceremonies.

Iranian officials have confirmed that once the logistics are finalized, the funeral program will be rescheduled, and details will be shared publicly. The decision reflects both the need for proper security measures and the scale of public participation expected for the late Supreme Leader’s farewell.

The postponement has also sparked international attention, as the leadership succession process is underway, with reports suggesting Khamenei’s son may be designated as the new Supreme Leader.
