Tehran, Mar 04 (V7N) — Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed it has taken “full control” of the Strait of Hormuz, according to a report published Wednesday (March 4) by Iran’s state-run Fars News Agency.
IRGC naval officer Mohammad Akbarzadeh was quoted as saying, “The Strait of Hormuz is currently under the full control of the Islamic Republic’s Navy.”
The claim comes amid intensifying regional hostilities. The IRGC stated that it fired more than 40 missiles in what it described as its 17th wave of attacks targeting US and Israeli positions. It also claimed to have launched hundreds of drone strikes against US military installations in Iraq and Kuwait.
The IRGC characterized the operations as the “first powerful step” in its broader military campaign.
Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump stated that the US Navy stands ready to deploy to protect oil tankers and ensure the security of maritime routes in the region.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, handling a significant share of global oil and gas shipments. Any disruption to navigation through the waterway is likely to have far-reaching economic and geopolitical consequences.
Independent verification of the IRGC’s claims regarding full control of the strait and the scale of the attacks has not yet been confirmed by US or international authorities.
