Dhaka, Feb 26 (V7N) — The High Court has granted bail to former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy in five cases, including four murder cases filed over incidents during the student-public movement in July–August 2024.
A High Court bench led by Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal issued the order on Thursday.
Ivy was arrested from her residence in Deobhog area of Narayanganj city in the early hours of May 9 last year. Law enforcement agencies subsequently showed her arrested in six cases — four for murder and two for attempted murder — linked to violence during the movement.
In November last year, the High Court had granted her bail in five cases, but the Appellate Division later stayed that order. Following the stay, she was again shown arrested in the same five cases.
Selina Hayat Ivy served as mayor of Narayanganj Municipality from 2003 to 2011. After the formation of Narayanganj City Corporation, she won three consecutive elections to the mayoral post.
