DHAKA, Feb 20 (V7N) – Natundhara Bangladesh (NDB) Chairman Momin Mahadi has alleged that Jamaat–NCP are opposed to the Bangla language and the state of Bangladesh, claiming their slogans and political activities repeatedly reflect such a stance.
He made the remarks at a discussion meeting titled “Urdu Slogans in the Month of Language and the Bangladesh of the Future,” held at Bijoy Auditorium on Topkhana Road in the capital at 11:00am on Thursday.
According to Mahadi, the controversy surrounding the “July Charter” after the February 12 election and the subsequent programmes organized by the 11-party Jamaat–NCP alliance indicate an anti-state position. He also alleged that their supporters do not want peace in the country, adding that if they truly sought stability, they would have spoken about reducing commodity prices during Ramadan.
At the event, he further claimed that many from the new generation have realized that economist Muhammad Yunus allegedly used students mainly to gain relief from corruption-related cases. He alleged that under the banner of quota and anti-discrimination movements, people were misled, which, he said, weakened the spirit of the historic movements of 1952 and 1971 and contributed to economic hardship, social unrest and declining education standards.
Presidium Member and freedom fighter Fazlul Haque, Senior Vice Chairman Shanta Farjana, Joint Secretary General Wazed Rana and other leaders also addressed the discussion.
The speakers said that in the month of language, those going to parliament wearing jerseys with English writing to take oath as MPs demonstrate opposition not only to the Bangla language but also to Bangla literature, culture, education and civilization.
They also alleged that chanting Urdu slogans and forming platforms such as “Inqilab Manch,” and using slogans like “Inqilab Zindabad” and “Insaf Zindabad,” amount to disrespect toward the mother tongue achieved through historic sacrifice.
The leaders further claimed that after what they described as 18 months of mob rule, people across the country are seeking a peaceful Bangladesh led by students, youth and citizens. They urged pro-independence forces to remain united to build a stable and peaceful state.
However, no immediate reaction from Jamaat–NCP leaders was available regarding the allegations made at the discussion meeting.
