BARCELONA, Feb 27, (V7N) – Barcelona host Villarreal on Saturday seeking to consolidate top spot in La Liga despite concerns over the form of strikers Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.
Coach Hansi Flick has alternated between the veteran Pole and the Spaniard this season, but neither has fully convinced. Lewandowski, 37, has struggled with fitness and sharpness, while Torres, 25, has scored most of his goals in a brief purple patch late last year.
Barcelona’s attacking strength lies in wingers Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, but whichever forward Flick places between them has failed to deliver consistently in 2026. Torres has three goals in his last 15 appearances, while Lewandowski has five in 18.
Despite the issues, Barca lead La Liga for goals scored with 67, spread across 10 different players. Torres tops their chart with 12, while Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe leads the league with 23.
Flick has used Marcus Rashford sparingly as a central striker, but with Raphinha fit again, the Manchester United loanee may consider the role to gain more minutes. Rashford has contributed 13 assists and 10 goals in 34 games across all competitions.
Barcelona lead La Liga by a point, with Madrid hosting Getafe on Monday. Villarreal trail by 10 points but could revive their title hopes with a surprise win at Camp Nou.
