New York, Sept 23 (V7N) – World leaders have gathered this week at United Nations Headquarters in New York amid ongoing global crises, including wars, poverty, human rights violations, and climate change. The 193 Member States are engaging with the UN to address these urgent challenges and explore solutions at the center of multilateral discussions.

With only five years remaining to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the UN’s Goals Lounge has returned, providing a platform to scale solutions that reach everyone, everywhere. Convened by the UN Deputy Secretary-General and hosted by the UN Office for Partnerships, this year’s Lounge features unscripted dialogues, in-depth discussions, and immersive experiences aimed at sustaining global momentum toward the 2030 Agenda for people, planet, and peace.

Highlights so far include the commemoration of the International Day of Democracy, where speakers emphasized the necessity of inclusive governance, particularly for women and youth. Ambassador Paula Narváez Ojeda of Chile cautioned that unmet needs erode public trust, while UNDP’s María del Carmen Sacasa stressed the importance of rights and inclusion.

The 2025 SDG Moment, another key event, highlighted progress toward the two-thirds milestone on the road to 2030, bringing together leaders, activists, and changemakers to reaffirm their commitment to achieving the SDGs despite global challenges.

The Goals Lounge continues through Friday, Sept 26, with events focusing on practical solutions and collaborative action to realize sustainable development worldwide.
