Dhaka, Sep 22 (V7N) – Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Arab nations have welcomed the recognition of Palestine as an independent state by Western countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal, Anadolu Agency reported on Sunday (Sept 21).
Saudi Arabia praised the move, stating that it underscores the support and commitment of Western nations to ensure peace in the Middle East and reflects their dedication to advancing the two-state solution in line with legitimate UN resolutions.
Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry also expressed approval, noting that the recognition would help improve prospects for peace in the region and strengthen international efforts toward a two-state solution. The ministry urged other countries to follow suit to ensure regional security, stability, and prosperity.
Oman described the recognition as a “very important step forward” for both the two-state solution and regional peace. The Omani Foreign Ministry emphasized the need to guarantee the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
Jordan’s King Abdullah II commended Australia’s decision during a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in New York. Meanwhile, Qatar highlighted that the recognition by Western nations would contribute to lasting peace in the Middle East.
