Mongla, Sept 23 (V7N) – Inseparate operations, the Mongla Coast Guard has seized firearms and smuggled goods from suspicious boats, authorities said on Monday.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, media officer for the Coast Guard in Dhaka, said that acting on a tip-off, a team conducted a raid at Khetachira in Mathbaria, Pirojpur, at around 6 a.m. During the operation, officers inspected a suspicious wooden boat and recovered one locally made firearm and four rounds of ammunition.

In another operation at around 7 a.m., Coast Guard personnel raided the Khatakhal area near Joymoni Silo along the Pashur River at Mongla Port. A motorized fiberglass boat was searched, resulting in the seizure of smuggled goods worth approximately Tk 20,45,085, including 2,220 liters of kerosene, one electronic motor, three bags of Murli Premium tea-mix, six bundles of wire rope, and the boat used in the illegal activity.

In both operations, suspects fled the scene before being apprehended. The Coast Guard is in the process of taking legal action regarding the seized weapons, goods, and boats.

Lieutenant Commander Haq emphasized that the Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations along coastal areas to combat crime and prevent smuggling.
