NETRAKONA, July 27 (V7N) – Members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a protest march in Netrakona on Sunday, condemning allegedly derogatory remarks made by National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Coordinator Nasir Uddin Patowari regarding former State Minister Lutfuzzaman Babar.
The protest began in the evening when local BNP leaders and activists assembled at their party office in Choto Bazar and marched through the town’s streets toward the party headquarters. The procession culminated in a brief rally expressing strong disapproval of Patowari's statements.
Speeches were delivered by prominent local leaders, including former BNP district president and ex-MP Bir Muktijoddha Ashraf Uddin Khan, Senior Joint Convenor Attorney Mahfuzul Haque, Joint Convenor S.M. Moniruzzaman Dudu, former Organizational Secretary S.M. Shafiqul Kader Suja, and District Bar Association General Secretary Masud Rana Chowdhury. Other participants included District BNP member Islām Uddin Khan Chonchol and former District Jubo Dal Vice President Abdullah Al Mamun Khan Roni.
Earlier in the day, party activists had held a demonstration in Mymensingh’s Madan Upazila, Babar’s home constituency, signaling escalating tensions over the remarks.
BNP leaders demanded a formal apology from Nasir Uddin Patowari and called on his party to take disciplinary action against him. They warned of intensifying protests if no response is forthcoming.
This confrontation underscores growing friction between BNP and NCP, centering on political rhetoric and mutual accusations ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
