Kishoreganj, July 27 (V7N) – National Citizen Party (NCP) convened a high-powered public march and rally in Kishoreganj city under the banner of “A New Government May Have Arrived, But a New Country Is Still Pending.” Party convener Nahid Islam urged the public to demand justice, structural reforms, and a new constitution, and said they will unite at Shaheed Minar on August 3 under the July Declaration.
Addressing the crowd at the Three-Road Junction in old town Kishoreganj on Saturday evening, Nahid criticized the current presidency, saying: “The people of Kishoreganj may have a president, but they are denied the rights to education and healthcare. Farmers aren't paid fair prices for crops. Children in haor regions lack educational opportunities. Clean drinking water remains inaccessible. This so-called president handed Bangladesh back to Sheikh Hasina; they have decimated democratic rights.”
He vowed that the party’s righteous fight will continue until justice, reform, and a new constitution are achieved, no matter how strong the opposition. He asserted that the NCP is bound to the martyrs of the public uprising and committed to sustaining the struggle on the streets.
Drawing attention to ongoing local grievances, Nahid claimed: “Many cases remain unresolved in Kishoreganj. Youth are the driving force of the nation. If we fail to harness that potential post-uprising, nation-building will remain out of reach.” He appealed to young people to join the NCP’s movement toward a transformed Bangladesh.
Senior leaders including central secretary Akhtar Hossain, just southern organizer Hasnat Abdullah, central leader Nadia Sharmin, joint secretary Ahnaf Saeed Khan, north organizer Khairul Kabir, and anti-discrimination student movement coordinator Ekram Hossain spoke at the event.
In addition to domestic political demands, speakers also protested atrocities in Palestine and demanded international accountability. They pledged to end corruption, oppose authoritarian practices, and dismantle any new forms of fascism.
Thousands attended the rally, with large banners and temporary arches erected around the city to welcome the speakers. The main city road—Station Road—was blocked for over five hours, causing heavy traffic disturbances across the city.
Meanwhile, concerns spread among participants as anonymous online threats against the NCP circulated. Government was urged to enhance security measures, although officials deemed the messages fake. The rally passed without incident, concluding peacefully.
Organizers and attendees praised the peaceful turnout and the party’s call for civic engagement, justice, and structural reform.
