Dhaka, Dec 21 (V7N) — A joint press conference will be held on Sunday to update the public on the investigation into the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Mancha. Officials from RAB, BGB, and the police are expected to participate, presenting details on the progress of the investigation and the suspects apprehended so far.

Meanwhile, the attempted murder case related to the shooting has been upgraded to a murder case by the court as of Saturday.

Wing Commander M Z M Entekhab Chowdhury, Director of RAB’s Legal and Media Wing, said the press conference is being organized to present a comprehensive overview of the investigation, including the coordination among the agencies involved.

Sources say Hadi had been campaigning as an independent candidate in Dhaka-8. On the day of the incident, he was shot after campaigning. To date, 11 individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Eight of these were arrested by RAB, including Faisal Karim Masud’s father Humayun Kabir, mother Hasi Begum, wife Saheda Parvin Samia, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu, girlfriend Maria Akter Lima, associate Md. Kabir aka Datbhanga Kabir, Faisal himself, and Abdull Hannan, the owner of the motorcycle used in the attack. Police also arrested Sanjay Chisim and Sibion Dio, allegedly involved in human trafficking across the border, and Md. Nuruzzaman Nomani, who reportedly assisted Faisal in fleeing. The original attempted murder case was filed at Paltan Police Station on December 14 by Abdullah Al Zaber, Secretary of Inquilab Mancha, naming Faisal Karim Masud, a former Chhatra League leader, and several unknown individuals. The case targets the planners and financiers of the attack. Following Hadi’s death, the DB submitted a request to the court to convert the case into a murder investigation, which was approved.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination of Hadi’s body was completed on Saturday morning at Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College morgue. Officials reported that in addition to bullet wounds on the head, a puncture was found in the chest, likely made for medical purposes.

On December 12, at noon, Hadi was shot while riding a rickshaw on Kalibari Road in Bijoynagar, Dhaka. CCTV footage shows two assailants on a motorcycle opening fire and fleeing. Investigation sources have identified the shooter as former Chhatra League leader Faisal Karim Masud, while Alamgir Hossain aka Alamgir Sheikh was driving the motorcycle. Within 12 hours of the shooting, the suspects reportedly crossed into India via the Dhobaura-Haluaghat border in Mymensingh.
