Dhaka, Dec 19 (V7N) – Amid heightened tensions in the capital following the death of Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has appealed to demonstrators to exercise patience and restraint. He also pledged a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.

The DMP Commissioner made the appeal shortly after midnight on Thursday while speaking to the media. Hadi passed away around 9:45 PM on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital. Following the spread of the news, several areas of Dhaka witnessed protests, road blockades, and incidents of arson.

Responding to questions about police measures to control the situation, Commissioner Sajjat Ali said that law enforcement agencies were making maximum efforts to maintain order. He confirmed that police personnel were deployed across the city and actively working on the ground to stabilize the situation.

Addressing the protesters directly, he urged them to remain patient, stating that every aspect of the killing would be investigated objectively and transparently. He emphasized that no detail would be overlooked and assured the public of accountability through due legal process.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on December 12 in the Bijoynagar area of Dhaka while participating in a public outreach campaign. He was hit in the head by gunfire from assailants riding a moving motorcycle, leaving him critically injured. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery, before being transferred to a private hospital in the capital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations into the killing remain ongoing.
