DHAKA, July 16, (V7N) – In the wake of violent attacks on the National Citizens Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has declared a nationwide blockade at key points across the country. The announcement came through the organization's official Facebook page on Wednesday afternoon.

The statement condemned the attack by what it termed the "July leaders" in Gopalganj, referring to activists of the banned Chhatra League and Awami League, who allegedly ambushed NCP leaders and set fire to their rally stage. In response, the student platform called on all of its units and local student organizations, political allies, and the general student community to join the blockade and resist what they called an attack on democratic expression.

The Facebook post read:

“The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement is announcing a blockade program at all important points across the country. We urge all our units to stand united with local political and student forces in this protest against tyranny.”

The situation in Gopalganj remains volatile, with the city under Section 144, and BGB, army, and police forces deployed. Senior NCP leaders, including Nahid Islam, are reportedly sheltering at the Superintendent of Police’s office for safety after multiple waves of ambushes targeted their convoy and rally venue.

Wednesday’s developments have intensified the political crisis nationwide, with fears of wider unrest if the violence continues to spread. The blockade program could significantly disrupt transportation and logistics across Bangladesh, especially if supported by allied student and opposition groups.

Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
