Rajshahi, July 17 (V7N) — Three officials from Rajshahi University (RU) were arrested on Thursday afternoon in connection with charges of assaulting students and activists during last month’s "July Revolution" protests.

At approximately 2:00 PM, Rajshahi Metropolitan July Chetana Implementation Committee coordinated with Motihar police to detain the accused from Administrative Building‑1 on campus.

Committee convenor Mostafizur Rahman stated that despite their written request to the university registrar last week—and assurances of action—no steps were taken. “We had no choice but to take matters into our own hands. All three are named in the case and are affiliates of the ruling Awami League,” he said.

Arrested officials include:

Abdullah Al Masud, Assistant Accounts Director, Accounts Division, RU. (Case filed at Boalia Police Station, Case No. 3/381, dated September 1, 2024.)

Aminul Haque Russell, Assistant Accounts Director, Accounts Department, RU. (Case filed at Boalia, Case No. 1/47, dated March 2, 2025.)

Pankaj Kumar, Section Officer, Controller of Examinations Office, RU. (Case filed at Boalia, Case Nos. 1/47 & 14/119, dated May 12, 2025.)

OC Abdul Malek of Motihar Police Station confirmed that the arrests took place in the presence of the university’s proctorial team and members of the July Chetana Committee. The detainees were initially taken to Motihar and later transferred to Boalia Police Station. They are expected to be produced in court by Boalia police.

Proctor Professor Dr. Mahbubur Rahman commented, “I was unaware of the full circumstances. Had I known they were forcibly removed from their offices, the matter would be viewed differently. In the future, only law enforcement will be permitted on campus in such situations—not outsiders.”
