Narsingdi, Aug 18 (V7N) – A violent confrontation erupted late Sunday between two opposing BNP factions at Panchdona Mor, Narsingdi Sadar, as both groups fought over control of a CNG station, extortion of footpath vendors, and territorial dominance. The night of unrest, marked by gunfire, bomb explosions, and police intervention, resulted in injuries and escalating tensions.

According to police and local sources, the conflict began around 7 p.m. between supporters of Union BNP’s Vice President Lalu Miah (also known as Lalu Member) and those aligned with party worker Mosaddeq Hossain. The violence included multiple grenade explosions, shootouts, and chase sequences. A hand grenade was even thrown at a police vehicle.

At least five individuals were injured, including two by gunshot: Hamid Miah (28), son of Taizuddin, and Hasan Miah (28), son of Billal Miah. The victims received treatment at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, while others were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further care.

Witnesses reported that the clashes stemmed from an ongoing power struggle over the nearby auto rickshaw stand (CNG station), footpath extortion, and the lucrative jute trade in the area—tensions that date back to August 5 of the previous year.

Despite police presence at the scene, calm was not restored immediately. The confrontations continued in waves until around 11:30 p.m..

“We are trying to restore order between the two rival factions,” said Md. Anwar Hossain Shamim, Additional Superintendent of Police for Narsingdi Sadar Circle. “Two men were shot, and we cannot yet confirm casualties, but the situation remains tense,” he added.
