Teknaf, Nov 09 (V7N) — Residents of Teknaf held a human chain on Saturday afternoon to protest the brutal killing of Sabrang Union Parishad member and Arafat Rahman Koko Sports Council president, Md. Yunus Sikdar. The demonstration took place at the Teknaf Press Club, with participation from local political leaders, social organizations, and members of the general public.
According to police sources, Yunus Sikdar’s wife, Kohinur Akter, filed a murder case at Teknaf Model Police Station. The complaint named eight individuals, including Md. Alam (also known as Shafia), Md. Harun, Saiful Karim, Rezaul Karim, Ali Mohammad Forkan, Iftikhar Ahmed Masum, Abshar Uddin, and Ali Johar, as accused. Additionally, seven to eight unidentified individuals have been included as unknown suspects. The case has been registered under Teknaf Model Police Station, Case No. 30; G.R. No. 799/25.
During the human chain, speakers condemned the premeditated killing of a popular local representative. They demanded the swift arrest of the perpetrators and called for exemplary punishment. Organizers stressed the need for a special investigative team to ensure a fair inquiry and urged coordinated efforts from police, BGB, RAB, Navy, and Coast Guard to maintain law and order in Teknaf.
Family members of the deceased stated that on Tuesday, November 4, Md. Alam allegedly lured Yunus Sikdar to Rangikhali area under the pretext of an invitation. He did not return home that night. His body was recovered the following morning from a canal near Anwar Project along the main road in Hnila Union. Kohinur Akter recounted, “I visited Alam’s house that night with several people, but could not bring my husband back alive. Alam had promised to return him by morning, but instead, we found his body.”
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Zayed Md. Nur said, “We are deeply saddened by this murder. Our team is working day and night to arrest the criminals. Those involved will be brought to justice soon. Public cooperation is essential.”
Speakers at the protest included Teknaf Poura BNP President Abdur Razzak, General Secretary Akhtar Hossain Bablu, Teknaf Sadar Union Chairman Ziaur Rahman Jihad, Poura BNP Vice President Abdul Jabbar, Sabrang Union Ward-1 Member Md. Selim, Poura Jubo Dal Convener Abdus Shukkur, student representative Robiul Hasan Mamun, Morshed Alam, Ruayet Hossain, Abdul Aziz, and others. Members of Teknaf Poura BNP and its affiliated organizations, along with citizens from various walks of life, also attended.
According to allegations, Yunus Sikdar was reportedly summoned on Tuesday night to the residence of Md. Alam, a controversial figure linked to drug trafficking and former General Secretary of the Koko Sports Council. He was allegedly held there before being brutally murdered. Alam and his accomplices remain at large following the incident.
