Ukhiya, Nov 08 (V7N) — After a long gap of 17 years, the Ukhiya Upazila unit of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has officially reopened its office in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. The inauguration took place on Saturday afternoon on the second floor of the Salam Building in the heart of Ukhiya town, marked by a special prayer and milad ceremony.

The event was attended by central, district, and local leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, along with religious scholars, community representatives, and a large number of activists.

The chief guest, Alhaj Muhammad Shahjahan, Central Assistant Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, inaugurated the office by cutting a ribbon and later delivered a speech. He said the reopening of the Ukhiya office was not merely a formal event but a symbolic renewal of duty and commitment. “For years, the Ukhiya unit of Jamaat faced immense challenges and adversity. This reopening represents a fresh beginning and a reaffirmation of our dedication to the Islamic movement,” he remarked, urging party members to remain steadfast in their ideological principles.

Presiding as the special guest, Cox’s Bazar district Jamaat-e-Islami Amir and Ukhiya-Teknaf parliamentary candidate Principal Maulana Nur Ahmad Anowari described the reopening as a “historic milestone.” He said, “After 17 years, regaining our own office is a moment of pride. From here, we will strengthen grassroots activities and work toward building a society based on Islamic values.”

Also present were District Secretary Zahidul Islam, Social Welfare Secretary Principal Nurul Hossain Siddiqui, former Amir Shahjahan, Ukhiya Upazila Jamaat Amir Maulana Abul Fazal, Nayeb-e-Amir Nurul Haque, and Assistant Secretary Abdur Rahim, among others.

Following the inauguration, a milad and special prayer were held, seeking the progress of the nation, the Muslim Ummah, and the Islamic movement in Bangladesh.

According to party sources, Jamaat’s organizational activities in Ukhiya had been largely inactive due to administrative and political obstacles. The previous office was shut down around 2008, after which the group operated temporarily from various locations. The reopening marks a renewed organizational initiative aimed at strengthening local activities, promoting community welfare, and reviving Islamic awareness at the grassroots level.

After the event, party leaders spoke to journalists, emphasizing plans to enhance social service programs and expand community engagement in Ukhiya.
