Shibchar, Aug 17 (V7N) – A large-scale political rally organized by the Shibchar Upazila unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was held on Saturday, August 16, in the Madbarer Char Union of Madaripur’s Shibchar upazila. The event saw the participation of thousands of party leaders and activists in a gathering that became vibrant with chants, slogans, and renewed political calls.
The rally was addressed by Shibchar Upazila BNP Convener Kamal Zaman Molla as the chief guest. In his speech, he stated, "One year ago, with the support of the people, the autocratic rule of Sheikh Hasina was brought to an end. No country can achieve real progress without fair elections. Those who risked their lives during the July movement are true lions of our nation. Under the guidance of our beloved leader Tarique Rahman, we have remained united in this fight. For eighteen years, he has organized us and led every movement from the front."
He further added, "Through the July uprising, BNP played a decisive role in removing the fascist Sheikh Hasina from power. But what did we get in return? A new extortionist party has emerged—the so-called National Extortionist Party (NCP). They have handed over the country to looters and corrupt forces. Even Jamaat has now allied with them, just to obstruct the path to elections. However, the people of Bangladesh urgently desire an elected government. They no longer want to live under any interim arrangement."
The main speaker at the event was BNP Executive Committee member Md. Humayun Kabir. The rally was chaired by Shibchar Upazila BNP’s Senior Joint Convener Shahjahan (Sazu Molla) and moderated by Md. Kazi Khokonuzzaman (Khokon) and Md. Saiduzzaman (Jamal Bepari).
Several grassroots activists also shared their experiences, highlighting years of political persecution. "Over the last seventeen years, we have faced false charges, imprisonment, and exile. Many of us could not even attend the funerals of our family members. Despite all this, some believe BNP is already in power. That is not the case. We must stay united, follow Tarique Rahman's instructions, and gain public trust to return to power through the ballot," said one speaker.
The rally transformed into a festive atmosphere as the crowd echoed slogans in support of the BNP and Tarique Rahman, creating a powerful and emotional backdrop to the political speeches.
Among the many present on stage were Madaripur District BNP Joint Conveners Mizanur Rahman Murad and Md. Sohrab Hawlader; Shibchar Upazila BNP Joint Conveners Md. Shahadat Hossain Khan, Md. Shahidul Islam (Shahid Chairman), Md. Mahbub Madbor, Mojibur Rahman Shishu Sardar, Md. Kohinur Hawlader, Md. Faruk Hawlader, Jahangir Sardar, Tajuddin Molla, Chan Mia Bhandari, Shahin Gomosta, Jamal Shikder, Zakir Gomosta, Anik Sheikh, and many other leaders and activists from BNP and its affiliated wings.
The event marks one of the largest political gatherings in the region this year, reflecting the BNP's continued grassroots presence and its focus on mobilizing ahead of any upcoming national elections.
