DHAKA, Feb 22, (V7N) - Envoys of China, India and Pakistan today paid separate courtesy calls on Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirming their countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Bangladesh under the newly formed government.
The envoys congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for leading the BNP to a decisive election victory, which they described as one of the most free and fair in the country’s history. They also felicitated Dr Rahman on assuming office as Foreign Minister.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen conveyed firm support for the “Bangladesh First” policy and emphasized advancing the Bangladesh-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership. He also invited Dr Rahman to visit China.
Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma expressed readiness to deepen cooperation, with both sides agreeing to maintain regular engagement. He extended an invitation from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for Dr Rahman to visit New Delhi.
Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Haider conveyed his government’s interest in broadening bilateral cooperation. Dr Rahman emphasized exploring new avenues of collaboration and strengthening regional cooperation for South Asia’s welfare.
The envoys also met State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam during their visit.
