Riyadh, Mar 19 (V7N) — Foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries have strongly condemned Iran’s recent ballistic missile and drone attacks, calling them unacceptable under any circumstances. The joint statement was issued following a meeting in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, according to a report from the Qatari Foreign Ministry.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, was attended by foreign ministers from Qatar, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates.
The statement said Iran has deliberately targeted civilian areas, oil installations, airports, water treatment plants, residential buildings, and diplomatic facilities through missile and drone strikes. The ministers condemned these attacks and stressed that all states have the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The ministers demanded that Iran immediately cease its attacks, comply with international law and humanitarian law, and respect the sovereignty of neighboring countries. They also warned that future relations will depend on Iran meeting these conditions and refraining from using military force to disrupt regional security.
The statement emphasized the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which calls for the cessation of attacks, refraining from provocative actions, and ensuring free navigation in strategic waterways including the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab.
The ministers reiterated their support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability and condemned Israel’s recent aggression in the country. They pledged to continue coordination among member states and take necessary measures to maintain regional peace and security.
