Mongla, July 28 (V7N) – A mourning rally and memorial meeting were held in Mongla to honor the martyrs of the historic July-August uprising. Organized by the Mongla municipal and upazila units of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the rally began at noon on Monday from the municipal market square, proceeding through the main streets of the town before concluding with a memorial session at the same location.

The chief guest, Bagerhat district BNP joint convener Lion Dr. Sheikh Faridul Islam, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the achievements of the July-August uprising. He urged everyone to remain vigilant so that no one could snatch away these hard-earned gains. He also highlighted ongoing conspiracies by various groups, particularly criticizing those who initially took part in the anti-discrimination movement but later engaged in actions detrimental to the cause.

Dr. Islam clarified that not everyone is involved in such activities, but a faction is attempting to manipulate the revolution for personal gain and engage in extortion—actions with no connection to the original July movement. He reminded attendees that the uprising was fought for equality and justice.

He further stated that the BNP and like-minded parties have struggled for 17 years, and when united, their movement forced the fascist Sheikh Hasina to flee. He urged everyone to learn from this history and ensure that such fascism never returns to Bangladesh.

Other notable attendees included Abu Hossain Poni, General Secretary of the Upazila BNP; M. A. Kashem, Secretary of the Municipal Jubo Dal; Shafru Haidar Sujan, Secretary of the Upazila Jubo Dal; former student leader Khaled Mahmud Shohag; former secretaries Nasir Musalli and Mir Sagar of the Upazila and Municipal Chatra Dal respectively; joint convener Imran Hossain of the Municipal Chatra Dal; and student leaders Mehedi Hasan Shawon and Sagar Niloy from Mongla Government College.

The event featured speeches reflecting on the uprising’s legacy and called for unity and vigilance to protect democratic values.
