Teknaf, July 2 (V7N) — The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 90,000 yaba tablets and 28 kilograms of cannabis in two separate anti-narcotics operations in Teknaf upazila, arresting three individuals in connection with the drug hauls.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Minara Begum (35), daughter of late Siddiq Ahmed, and Md. Kefayet Ullah (19), son of Farid Alam—both residents of Alir Deil in Teknaf’s Sabrang Union. The third suspect, Jamila Begum (50), is the wife of late Ali Ahmed from the Khurer Muk area in the same union.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman (PSC), Commanding Officer of BGB Teknaf-2 Battalion, confirmed the development in a statement to the media.

Acting on a tip-off that a major drug shipment from Myanmar might enter Bangladesh via the Bay of Bengal, BGB deployed several special patrol teams along the Naf River, coastal regions, and near the Marine Drive area in the early hours of Tuesday. Intelligence operations revealed that traffickers had stored a large consignment of drugs in a house in Sabrang Union after receiving it via sea.

Following this, BGB units launched a targeted raid on a residence in the Alir Deil area and seized 90,000 yaba tablets from the home of Minara Begum. Two individuals, including Begum herself and Kefayet Ullah, were detained on the spot.

In a separate operation the same night, BGB personnel received additional intelligence regarding a stash of cannabis in another residence in the Khurer Muk area of Sabrang Union. A specialized team cordoned off the house and conducted a search, uncovering 28 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside a chicken shed belonging to Jamila Begum. She was arrested at the scene.

BGB has filed regular cases against the accused and handed them over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal action.

These operations are part of BGB’s continued crackdown on drug trafficking along Bangladesh’s southeastern border, particularly near maritime and riverine entry points often exploited by cross-border smuggling networks.
