Ukhiya, June 30 (V7N) – RAB-15 has arrested a key ringleader of a notorious abduction syndicate during a successful operation in West Morichya area under Haldia Palong Union of Ukhiya Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The arrestee, identified as Zayed Hossain Faruq, was apprehended with a cache of illegal firearms and imitation RAB uniforms, further exposing the network’s dangerous tactics and impersonation methods.
During the raid, RAB-15 recovered a foreign-made pistol, two locally made guns, 21 rounds of mixed ammunition, four RAB vests, fake RAB ID cards, and various tactical gear used for staging abductions.
The arrested individual was handed over to Ukhiya Police Station on Monday afternoon. The developments were disclosed at a press briefing held earlier in the day at the RAB-15 headquarters in Cox’s Bazar by Lieutenant Colonel Kamrul Islam, commanding officer of RAB-15.
According to the RAB official, the arrest follows the abduction of Md. Hafiz Ullah from the Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya on June 11, where a group of armed criminals, impersonating RAB personnel, forcibly took the victim and later demanded a ransom of BDT 1.5 million from his family.
Following actionable intelligence, RAB traced and captured the lead suspect, Zayed Hossain Faruq, from West Morichya village late Sunday night.
Lieutenant Colonel Kamrul further revealed that recently detained individuals, including infamous bandit Shah Alam and dismissed army soldier Suman Molla, along with four others, are also linked to this organized abduction group. The syndicate is believed to be involved in multiple high-profile crimes, including extortion and arms trafficking.
Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to dismantle the full network and bring all collaborators to justice.
