DHAKA, Feb 12, (V7N) - BNP has expressed confidence in forming the next government by winning more than two-thirds of seats in the 13th national general elections, party spokesman Mahdi Amin said Thursday night.
Speaking at a press conference at the BNP Election Steering Committee office in Gulshan, Amin stated that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had unofficially won in both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies. He alleged that since Wednesday night, opponents engaged in fraud, forgery, and capturing polling centres.
“Despite these offenses, candidates of the Sheaf of Paddy are leading by large margins in many seats. Many have already been elected unofficially,” Amin said, adding that BNP is confident of forming government with overwhelming public support.
He accused rival parties of election engineering, citing delayed vote counting in Dhaka constituencies including Dhaka-8, Dhaka-11, Dhaka-13, and Dhaka-16. Amin claimed propaganda and violations of electoral codes were used to minimize BNP’s margin of victory.
He congratulated voters for their enthusiasm and participation, saying their support had ensured BNP’s success.
BNP leaders Professor Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel, Jubair Babu, Shairul Kabir Khan, Shamsuddin Didar, and Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib were present at the press conference.
