RANGAMATI, June 26 (V7N) – Players, sports organizers, and club officials in Rangamati have formed a human chain and submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate cancellation of the newly reconstituted ad hoc committee of the Rangamati Hill District Sports Association. They allege that the committee is composed of individuals who are not genuinely involved in sports, and are instead "corrupt, incompetent, and self-interested."

The protest, which took the form of a human chain, was held in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday morning. Mahbubul Baset Apu, convener of the Club Association, presided over the demonstration.

Speakers at the event, including Advocate Mamunur Rashid Mamun, President of South Sporting Club; Pritimay Chakma, President of Chhadak Club; Saiful Islam Shakil, General Secretary of Pratibhas Sporting Club; Sadananda Chakma, Convener of Brothers Club; Ronen Chakma, General Secretary of Youth Sporting Club; and student representative Shariful Haque Shakil, expressed strong disapproval of the ad hoc committee reconstituted on June 19. They argued that such a committee would significantly impede the development of sports in the district.

Following the human chain, a written memorandum was submitted to Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan through the Rangamati District Commissioner. The memorandum outlined three main demands:

Dismissal of the reconstituted ad hoc committee.

Formation of a new committee through consultation with local clubs and experienced sports organizers.

Investigation into alleged corruption in various sports sector projects, including mini stadiums, and appropriate action against those found culpable.

The memorandum bears the signatures of representatives from at least 43 clubs and various sports organizations across the district, highlighting the widespread discontent within the local sports community.

The protesting groups warned that if their demands are not met within the next week, they will implement "more stringent programs" in the future, signaling a potential escalation of their agitation. This protest underscores local concerns about transparency and accountability in sports administration, particularly regarding the allocation of resources and the selection of leadership in district-level sports bodies.
