DHAKA, Mar 26 (V7N) – In a significant recognition of long-standing service and professional excellence, 18 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) of the Bangladesh Army have been awarded honorary commissions as Lieutenants. The Ministry of Defense issued a formal notification today, Thursday, confirming that these promotions are effective from March 26, 2026, coinciding with the nation’s 56th Independence and National Day.

The officers, all previously holding the rank of Master Warrant Officer, represent various corps and regiments of the army. Among the recipients are Mohammad Jamal Uddin (Armored), along with Md. A. Qayyum and Md. Moharram Hossain from the Artillery. The Engineers corps saw the highest number of commissions with four officers: Md. Saiful Islam, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Sikder, Md. Ismail Hossain, and Md. Shahidul Islam. The East Bengal Regiment (E Bengal) followed closely with five officers—Kazi Mokarram Hossain, Md. Habibur Rahman, Mohammad Tajul Islam, Mohammad Kibria Kamal, and Mohammad Kamruzzaman—receiving the honorary rank.

Other notable commissions include Md. Abdul Quader (Signals), Md. Khaled Morshed Nirob (Bir), Sheikh Kamal Uddin (ASC), and Obaidur Rahman Sheikh and Md. Abul Hashem from the EME corps. Rounding out the list is Md. Abdul Quader from the CMP. These honorary commissions are traditionally granted to senior JCOs who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication throughout their military careers. The elevation to commissioned rank on such a historic national holiday serves as a testament to their contributions to the defense and sovereignty of Bangladesh.
