DHAKA, Mar 26 (V7N) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed paid a solemn tribute to the martyred members of the police force at the Rajarbagh Police Lines Memorial today, marking the 56th Independence and National Day. At 7:30 am on Thursday, the Minister laid a wreath to remember the brave police officers who were among the first to resist the Pakistani invaders during the dark night of March 25, 1971. As the mournful notes of the bugle filled the air, the Home Minister and senior police officials stood in a moment of profound silence to honor the ultimate sacrifice of these "children of the sun." Following the Minister’s tribute, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Ali Hossain Fakir and DMP Commissioner Md. Sarwar placed wreaths, followed by various police organizations and agencies.
During a subsequent media briefing at the memorial, the Home Minister shared a significant breakthrough regarding the murder of Inqilab Mancha convener Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. He confirmed that the Indian Police Force has successfully arrested three accused individuals in connection with the high-profile killing. This development marks a major step in the investigation, which has drawn widespread national attention. Minister Ahmed stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs has already initiated the legal process to bring the suspects back to the country, having formally applied to the Indian government for their extradition in accordance with international rules and bilateral agreements.
The Minister's remarks underscored the government's commitment to ensuring justice for recent acts of violence while simultaneously celebrating the historic roots of the nation's freedom. The dual focus of the morning—honoring the heroes of 1971 and addressing modern security challenges—highlighted the ongoing role of the Bangladesh Police in safeguarding the sovereign state. As the nation continues its Independence Day celebrations, the news of the arrests in the Sharif Osman case provides a sense of progress in the pursuit of law and order.
