Dhaka, Feb 24 (V7N)- The government will begin distributing family cards starting March 10, initially covering 14 upazilas, through which housewives will receive a monthly financial assistance of Tk 2,500.
The decision was finalized at a meeting chaired by Tarique Rahman at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat on Tuesday (February 24).
Pilot Project and Nationwide Rollout
Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafar Mohammad Zahid Hossain said the pilot project will run for four months. After successful implementation, the program will be expanded nationwide.
“Family cards will be given to all eligible residents in a ward, regardless of political affiliation. Eligibility will be determined by a committee led by the Upazila Executive Officer,” the Minister said.
Initially, funding will come as a lump sum allocation from the Finance Ministry, with dedicated budget provisions planned from next year.
Other Decisions by the Prime Minister
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman chaired a meeting on the New Mooring Container Terminal at the Cabinet Division. He also met with six newly appointed city administrators, providing suggestions for building clean and green cities.
This marks a key step in the government’s effort to provide direct financial support to households while improving local governance and urban management.
