PABNA, FEB 24 (V7N) - Miscreants allegedly attempted to kidnap a traditional rural doctor at gunpoint in Dublia Thakurpara village under Sadar Upazila of Pabna, creating panic among local residents, particularly within the Hindu community.
The incident occurred at around 11:15 pm on Saturday (February 21). The victim, Vrindavan Maitra, son of the late Binod Chandra Maitra, is a well-known rural doctor and a representative figure of the local Sanatan community.
According to family sources, Vrindavan Maitra returned home after closing his pharmacy at Dublia Bazar late at night. Shortly after, an unidentified person called him to the balcony, claiming to be a patient in need of treatment. When he stepped outside, a group of miscreants allegedly tried to forcibly abduct him.
At one stage, the attackers reportedly displayed a firearm and fired blank shots to create fear and chaos. Hearing the commotion and screams from family members and neighbors, the assailants fled the scene sensing public presence.
Following the incident, fear spread among the local Hindu community, and the victim’s family initially hesitated to file a complaint due to security concerns.
After receiving the news, Pabna Sadar’s newly elected MP Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas stood by the victim’s family. On his instructions, a delegation including district BNP Senior Joint Convener Abdus Samad Khan Montu and former office secretary Zahurul Islam visited the victim’s residence and assured them of support and safety.
The delegation conveyed that no evil force would be allowed to create instability in the area, and the MP has directed the administration to take strict action against those responsible.
Victim Vrindavan Maitra said he has no known enmity with anyone and was initially afraid to file a case, but gained courage to take legal action after receiving assurance from the MP’s representatives.
Confirming the matter, Pabna District Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge Rashidul Islam said police visited the spot after being informed and are investigating the incident with utmost seriousness.
